Playing false with God…

Some soul pulled this one up from the archives today…

Livin' in the foothills

Alec Motyer on James 4:4…

Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.

As we seek now, with James, to move forward from this point, we find that his first thought is to put the entire problem into a different context. For with his cry Unfaithful creatures! his concern is not that we have played false with each other, but that we have played false with God, that in befriending our own interests we have become friends of the world and the Lord’s enemies. Our problem is, in fact, a spiritual one: how to get right with God and how to stay right with him.
