Unto you I lift up my eyes,
O You who dwell in the heavens.
“The human race is given the wholesome advice to seek help from where they believe invincible protection will come; whereas persons puffed up in heart who preen themselves with worldly power have recourse to riches and take refuge in their transient inheritance if they are challenged by any wounding attack, so that they may exact punishment from an enemy who has had the audacity to inflict an injury. But God’s servants order themselves with the most patient behavior, and whatever the obstacle or tribulation which they endure, they raise their eyes to the Lord and look to Him in whom they have true confidence that they can be saved.”
Cassiodorus, Explanation of the Psalms, 3:178
