Congregational Prayer: February 9, 2014…

Our Holy Father and our God, we give You thanks for the blessings that are ours in Jesus Christ. We give You thanks that the penalty of eternal death for the sin of our first father, Adam, and all our own sins that we have heaped upon it, has been borne by Jesus in his atoning death upon the cross. We give You thanks that we, who could not reconcile ourselves to You, You have reconciled to Yourself through the blood of that same cross. We give You thanks that our eternal life is now begun, and that You purpose to make us like Jesus, to conform us to His image, and that You will be faithful to complete that good work of our sanctification begun in us, until the day of Jesus Christ.

We give You thanks, O God, that these things are true not for us alone, but for Christ’s whole church. As we are now joined with Christ’s whole Church Triumphant before Your heavenly throne, we give You thanks for that which has been done for us and for the assurance You give us by Holy Spirit that it will be completed. We place our whole faith and trust in the covenant faithfulness of the Triune God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, that these things are and will be true of us and of Christ’s whole Bride-Church.

And Father, as we continue our worship and prepare to come to this Table set for us by our Lord and Savior, may Your name be forever blessed. We pray, O God, superintend this by Holy Spirit. As we have come, called into Your presence, may Christ be present with us here. As we join at this Table, may we look upon these signs of bread and wine and see and know Your Son, may our faith be strengthened, secured, nailed down, and may we know the joy of Your salvation in Jesus Christ to the full.

Father, all this we pray in the name of Your Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ.
