Today is the fourth and last Sunday of Advent…
In Romans 8 Paul writes of the eager expectation of the creation. From the very beginning, from the time of Adam’s first sin, the creation has been subject to a curse because of him…because of us. But the creation is bound in that curse…in hope. In hope…because it knows that the sons of God, those children adopted in Christ into the family of God, will be revealed.
Paul also tells us that we groan within ourselves, eagerly awaiting the consummation, the completion of the adoption. We look forward to a time when sins and sorrow no longer grow, when thorns no longer infest the ground, when the blessings flow as far as the curse is found.
In Advent, we eagerly await the One who will turn back the curse.
Glory be to the God of Israel! Glory be to the King of all creation!
