Sunday morning thoughts…

One of the ‘Seven Last Words of Christ’ from the cross is “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do. There are commentators who think that the antecedent of the pronoun “them/they” includes the Pharisees, Sadducees, Priests, etc., who turned Jesus over to Pilate and forced His crucifixion. Looking at the Gospels, especially at the Parables of the Evil Tenants and of the Tares, it is difficult for me to conceive that those commentators are right. Instead, is the antecedent the Roman soldiers, who may well be in a position to not know what they were doing?

Not much of an Advent thought…but it’s been on my mind. And Advent is meaningless without Golgotha.
