Personal, honest, patient effort…

If one knows the Hebrew or the Greek, let him never preach upon a text without carefully studying it and its context in the original. Otherwise, let him search the best translations and good explanatory notes, determined that he will never say a passage of God’s holy and precious Word means so and so, without personal, honest, patient effort to ascertain the fact.
